June 4, 2011| Blue Moon Saloon
The Center for Cultural and Eco-Tourism and the Archives of Cajun and Creole Folklore at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette will be hosting its eighth annual fundraiser, Archive Aid, on Saturday, June 4 at the Blue Moon Saloon. |
Main Stage performers include Joe Hall, Tepetate, a Charivari Reunion and Feufollet with members of BeauSoleil sitting in. Beginning at 5p and during set breaks, Front Porch Sessions feature intimate performances with David Doucet, Kristi Guillory and Anya Burgess, and David Greely. All musicians performing at Archive Aid have benefited from the Archives, many of whom have recorded obscure songs found in the collections and reintroduced them into the vibrant body of South Louisiana music.
This year’s event will be broadcasted live on KRVS 88.7 FM and to the world via KRVS.org. Cover charge is a minimum donation of $10. Complimentary traditional and veggie jambalaya will be provided by Dr. Chantal Saucier and Warmbelly Catering. Listening stations will also be available until 10pm.
The funds raised through Archive Aid are necessary for the preservation, management and presentation of delicate historic materials, ensuring they remain intact for future generations and are made increasingly accessible to musicians, scholars and the general public. This year’s proceeds are earmarked for two upcoming CDs of rare recordings found in the Archives of Cajun and Creole Folklore.
In addition to Saturday’s event, Barnes and Noble Booksellers will hosting an online fundraiser June 5 through June 9, during which a percentage of each purchase will benefit the Archives of Cajun and Creole Folklore.
