BIOGRAPHY

Paula Phillips Carson, Acting Dean of the B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, received her Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from Louisiana State University. She has authored over 60 peer-refereed journal articles in outlets such as Academy of Management Journal, Organizational Dynamics, Journal of Applied Social Psychology, Academy of Management Executive, Public Personnel Management, and Business Horizons. Her primary research focuses on structuring organizations and managing workers in a manner that will result in the highest quality service for consumers. However, her current area of interest is rooted in understanding professional managers' susceptibility to adopting managerial fads and simultaneously forsaking an understanding of corporate history. In addition to refereed journal articles, she has authored six books, one of which was the first non-edited health care management textbook subsequently adopted by dozens of universities across the nation. One of her professional books has been named by the American Library Association as being on their "bestseller" list. For her research and publication activity, she has been recognized with five best paper awards (two at national level meetings) and the 2001 and 2002 Paul Hersey Award for Best Paper in the Journal of Applied Management and Entrepreneurship. She holds two endowed professorship at the University of Louisiana and has received research awards from University of Louisiana and Texas A&M.

Carson has served as Program Chair and Division Chair of a division of the National Academy of Management, has been elected to the Southern Management Association Board of Governors, was appointed as a Track Chair for the Southwest Academy of Management and for the Southern Management Association, and has served as the book review editor for the Journal of Management and Entrepreneurship. She has presented at Academy of Management Doctoral Consortia, and has dozens of times served as reviewer, session chair, discussant, and panel participant at regional and national professional association meetings. With regard to journal editorial service, she regularly reviews for six management journals, has twice served as a journal special editor, and sits on four editorial review boards.

She has consulted for hundreds of profit, not-for-profit, and public organizations throughout the United States. This work has revolved around strategic planning initiatives, stakeholder surveying, and human resource management interventions, but the majority of her work recently has been in the area of compensation determination and performance management. Paula holds a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) status from the Society for Human Resource Management Associations and is pursuing the Certified Compensation Professional designation of the WorldatWork .

From 2003 to 2005, Paula served as the MBA Director and Associate to the Dean of the B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration, and during this time was involved in several service learning projects involving museums and performing arts organizations.
