DIGITIZATION

Mechanics of the digitization process follow the following guidelines:

  • Reel-to-reel tapes, cassettes, and video are played through clean, proper equipment and fed through a Soundcraft Spirit E Series mixer and then through an Apogeee PSX-100 audio-to-digital converter at 96kHz/24-bit, into a Dell workstation running Wavelab 6 and then saved as an AIFF or WAV file.
  • Each digitized file is then stored in RAW form on two computers, a LACIE hard drive, and on three CD-Rs, stored separately.  For listening purposes on our in-house listening stations, the files are also normalized and saved using the MP3 codec and then stored on both hard-drive and a dedicated server.
